Long time owner Jim Rice is respected as one of the top contributors to many aspects of model aviation. He has been involved in the hobby since childhood , and is currently the District VIII AMA Vice President. Jim can provide an answer to almost any of this hobby's questions.
At the 2009 Rice Memorial, Jim announced that Judy Thompson had purchased 2nd Chance Hobbies. Although he remains a fixture in the hobby shop, he now has more time to focus on Model Aviation. If Jim is not out of town on AMA business, at a flying field giving lessons or flying himself, he can be found at the hobby shop offering advice, assistance, and even telling a humorous story or two.
The question is whether it is Jim or Shorty who is really in charge. If you ask Shorty, he will certainly speak!
Judy became involved in the hobby through her sons, both of whom are accomplished model pilots. As she and her sons visited 2nd Chance Hobbies, they learned that this hobby shop was much more than a place to buy hobby products. They found that there is a camaraderie shared by customers and employees alike. If you don't know them it is hard to tell the customers from the employees! Both will help you find what you need, offer assistance and of course tell their stories of success and misadventures.
Judy and family are committed to maintaining hobby camaraderie and servicing a growing clientele.
